Chapter Five

The next morning dawned on Tarron’s Ridge. It looked to be clear day with a slight chill in the air. It seemed peaceful despite recent happenings. Patrols were on as the front was guarded. Men were on watch and they already had to clear a couple of visitors. But so far, it had been peaceful.

Men started coming into the main room from their own bedrooms as a scent had lured them. It wasn’t coffee like most mornings. No, this was bacon.

Breed wandered in as did Greer.

Both men looked around to see their brothers with their plates piled high. Pancakes and bacon.

“Someone get a wild hair up their ass and decided to cook this morning?” Greer asked.

Breed shook his head. “Well, Kizzy was gone when I woke up.”

The Prez and his VP headed to the kitchen to find out what was going on.

When Breed opened the door there were four women in the room. He stopped and stared.

Greer came in behind him and looked around his shoulder.

Shyla and Kizzy were manning the stove, flipping pancakes and grilling bacon.

The two men swung their gazes over to see two other women.

Breed paused. “Mom?”

Whisper Moon turned from the sink as she wiped her hands dry with a hand cloth. “Hello son.”

Breed came over and kissed her on the cheek then looked over at her companion. “Feather?” He stared at her. Then he glanced nervously at Greer.

Greer didn’t seem to notice anyone but his woman as he headed over to where Shyla stood. He wrapped his large arms around her waist and hugged her. “Whatya doing sweet Shy?”

“Get your hands off my daughter!” the woman Feather yelled.

Greer startled as he stepped back a bit and stared at her.

Shyla shook her head as she gazed over at her mother. “Come on Mom. I told you about Greer. Why are you yelling?”

“You know why!” The older Indian woman placed her hands on her hips. “He hasn’t even been out to see us. He’s never even met your father.”

Breed shook his head and looked troubled. “Now Aunt Feather. You cannot be serious with this. I mean Shyla—”

“—is my daughter and she knows our traditions.”

Shyla glared at her. “Look mom, I can date who I want, you know?” She took Greer’s arm and introduced him, “This is Greer.”

Her mother gazed back at her. “Just Greer? No other name? So when you marry him, are you just gonna have no last name?”

Shyla gasped. “Marry? Who said anything about that yet?”

Breed sighed and pushed his fingers through his hair. “It’s Folsom. Greer Folsom. He’s my VP of Rebel’s Blood. I have known him for ten years, Aunt Feather. He’s a good man.”

Greer finally seemed to wake up from his shock and walked over to Shyla’s mother. “I intend to marry her, yes. I have the dowry all ready. I wanted to come out and parlay with your husband and sons.”

Shyla turned her stunned gaze to him. “M-marry?”

He nodded as his gaze met her shocked eyes.

“Then why haven’t you?” Feather asked.
